Distressed Migrants In Canal Rescued By Border Patrol Agents

January 30, 2019 By sdcnews

CALEXICO–U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector rescued two Mexican nationals from a canal east of Calexico on Monday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:10 p.m., when agents assigned to patrol near the All-American Canal heard individuals yelling for help coming from the water. Agents could see that the men were in distress and trapped in the thick reeds on the south bank of the canal. Agents went into the reeds and successfully pulled the men to safety.

An Emergency Medical Technician that was on scene medically evaluated both subjects. Shortly after, the two men both 22-years-of-age were transported to a local hospital for further treatment and were medically released a few hours later.

“The swift action of our Border Patrol agents exemplifies their dedication in protecting human life,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez. “I am very proud of the hard work and commitment our agents demonstrate on a daily basis.”

This incident marks the second rescue this fiscal year, which started Oct. 1, 2018, by El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents.
