Cygnet Theatre to present Out Night series

October 14, 2010 By Staff

SAN DIEGO–Cygnet Theatre will present each Wednesday its “Out Night at Cygnet” series. The series was established to welcome and thank its LGBT audience members.

Cygnet’s 2010/2011 season includes one night per production with a free pre-show mixer including cocktails, appetizers and enter-to-wins.

The next production will be October 20 (“Living Together“), December 15 (“It’s a Wonderful Life“), February 16 (“The Tragedy of the Commons“), April 27 (“Cabaret“) and July 6 (“Our Town“). The free pre-show mixer begins at 6:30 p.m. and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m.

Cygnet Theatre was founded by Artistic Director Sean Murray and Executive Director Bill Schmidt. Partners for over 15 years and legally married in 2008, Murray and Schmidt are active members of the LGBT community. The mission of Cygnet Theatre is to “startle the soul, ignite debate and embrace the diversity of the community it serves.” Cygnet Theatre is an active member of the GSDBA Chamber of Commerce and will be hosting a special event to support the group during the Spring 2011 run of “Cabaret.”

For Artistic Director Murray, establishing the “Out Night” series has been a long-time goal. “It’s fun to share what we do with friends,” stated Murray. “There’s that hope that like-minded people will understand and appreciate the stories and vision we work to create. Adding a pre-party mixer is just a nice way to say we’re glad they’re there.”

Cygnet’s “Out Night” series is unique to other theatre “Out Nights” in that the pre-show mixer is offered free to attendees with purchase of a performance ticket. Cygnet’s “Out Nights” are sponsored in part by The Rage Monthly Magazine.
