SAN DIEGO–The San Diego Bike Coalition has selected cycling advocate Sylvie Froncek as its new programs director.
As director for the coalition’s education programs, Froncek will ensure students and instructors across San Diego county are provided quality instruction, materials and support. She will also work with local and regional government agencies to secure and execute grant programs that will provide bicycling educational opportunities for underserved communities in the region.
Froncek will further the Bike Coalition’s advocacy by promoting bicycling as a mainstream, safe and enjoyable form of transportation for all people. As a team-building facilitator and an outdoor educator, she values experiential education and teaching according to the Multiple Intelligences Theory by Howard Gardner. Her innovative approach will be implemented in Bike Coalition educational programs that will reach underserved populations in San Diego county.
“I love bikes because they are an amazing vessel for learning tactile and social skills,” said Bike Coalition Programs Director Sylvie Froncek. “Everyone’s experience of biking is little different and we all face different barriers and challenges when it comes to transportation. I hope that by connecting with diverse communities in San Diego and offering a variety of bike education workshops I can encourage sustainable lifestyles and bolster our bike culture.”
She has been teaching cycling skills workshops for more than 10 years. In 2018, after numerous long bike tours and volunteer work in bike collectives around the world, she founded Vie Cycle, a business that offers mobile bike maintenance workshops for cyclists who identify as women and the LGBTQI community.
“Sylvie believes that bicycles bring people together and have the potential to transform peoples’ minds and bodies,” said Bike Coalition Executive Director Andy Hanshaw. “Her passion for helping communities not often associated with bicycling and her educational background will be extremely valuable to our programs.”
San Diego Bike Coalition is a nonprofit organization that advocates for and protects the rights of all people who ride bicycles. They promote bicycling as a mainstream, safe and enjoyable form of transportation and recreation.
