Cricket customers can make free calls to Haiti; text donations directly to Red Cross

January 17, 2010 By sdcnews

SAN DIEGO–Cricket Communications, Inc., today announced it is allowing Cricket customers to make unlimited free calls from their Cricket phones to Haiti to check on the status of loved ones in the wake of this week’s earthquake. The feature is available to all Cricket voice-plan customers from now until midnight Eastern Standard Time on Friday, January 22.

In addition, Cricket is participating in a text messaging initiative with the American Red Cross to enable Cricket customers to make a donation to help those affected by the earthquake in Haiti. Cricket customers with text messaging capabilities can make a $10 donation directly from their Cricket phone by Texting “Haiti” to 90999. Donations will be debited from the customer’s prepaid Flex Bucket account or Cricket PayGo account.

Customers can also contact the American Red Cross at 800-733-2767 or online at www.redcross.org to donate any dollar amount. For more information about Cricket, visit www.mycricket.com. For more information about the Red Cross and the text donation campaign, visit www.redcross.org.
