County Offers Convenient Drop-Off Locations For Mail Ballot Voters

October 30, 2018 By sdcnews

SAN DIEGO–Mail ballot voters have options when it comes to turning in their ballots for the Nov. 6 Gubernatorial General Election. They can send in their ballot by mail, drop it off at the Registrar of Voters Office in Kearny Mesa or drop it off at any one of 59 additional sites throughout the county before Election Day. The drop-off sites will be open during each location’s regular business hours from Monday, Oct. 29 through Election Day.

The high number of contests in the Nov. 6 election means San Diego County voters will be getting a two-card ballot, with races listed on the front and back of each card. The quicker that ballots are returned to the Registrar’s Office, the quicker they can be prepared for counting Election Night, saving time and taxpayer dollars.

“More than 1.1 million San Diego County voters use mail ballots and that number continues to rise,” said Registrar Michael Vu. “The early drop-off sites are convenient for the voter, they help with the timely return of mail ballots and decrease the high volume of voters dropping off mail ballots at polling places on Election Day.”

Mail ballot voters can swing by any one of 59 libraries across the county. These drop-off locations are not early voting locations, but for mail ballots only. Each mail ballot packet contains an insert with additional information about the drop-off sites.

Registrar of Voters staff members will accept the mail ballots at the drop-off locations and follow specific protocols to maintain security. Registrar employees will also give out “I Voted” stickers.

Voters who would like to apply for a mail ballot still have time to get one before the Tuesday, Nov. 1 deadline. They can visit sdvote.com or call (858) 565-5800.

Early voting is already underway at the Registrar of Voters located at 5600 Overland Ave., San Diego, 92123 on the County Operations Center campus. Voters can cast their ballots there from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until Election Day when the voting hours will change to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. to reflect the hours at the polls, or between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 4.

For additional election information visit, sdvote.com or call (858) 565-5800.
