SAN DIEGO–The County Department of Child Support Services has earned statewide recognition in both the Top Performing as well as the Most Improved category for a very large county in California for the year 2009. This marks the second consecutive year that the County has been awarded the Top Performing honor and the first time ever that a local child support agency has won both the Top Performance award and the Most Improved recognition in the same year.
The awards were recently presented in Sacramento at the California Child Support Directors Association Meeting.
“I’m very proud of these awards because they recognize the efforts and dedication of our staff and the job they do for the families we serve,” said Jeff Grissom, Director of the Department of Child Support Services.
“This is especially gratifying because we were able to deliver a high level of service during a year in which we dealt with a conversion to a new statewide database system.”
The award is based on comparative rankings with the other five very large counties — LosAngeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Sacramento and Riverside — based on performance in five child support federal performance measures. Those standards measure Paternity Establishment, Court Orders Established, Current Support Collected, Arrears Collected and Cost Efficiency.
The County Department of Child Support Services currently manages 104,000 active cases and last year it collected more than $171 million in child support payments.
