County appoints director of Office of Internal Affairs

June 5, 2010 By Staff

SAN DIEGO–The County of San Diego has appointed Joe Cordero as the director of the Office of Internal Affairs. For the last 10 years, Cordero held the position of human resources director for the County’s Community Service Group. Before that, Cordero worked as a human resources manager for the County of San Diego and was responsible for community outreach and recruitment programs from 1991 to 1994.

“Joe is a career public servant who believes in community service and continues to volunteer for a variety of community programs and organizations,” said Walt Ekard, County Chief Administrative Officer. “We knew that Joe was a natural fit for this position, and we look forward to his continued success.”

Prior to working for the County, Cordero held several positions in higher education, including CSU San Marcos where he served as director of Institutional Diversity and Equal Opportunity, and as a human resources manager. Cordero also held various positions with the University of California, including the position of director of professional outreach and recruitment at UC San Diego, and management positions at UC Irvine Medical Center. Cordero has also served as the director and associate director at two community-based, social service organizations in Orange County.
