Congressman calls on Gov. Schwarzenegger to ask for Presidential Disaster Declaration‏

April 6, 2010 By Staff

CHULA VISTA–In the wake of the 7.2 earthquake that hit the U.S./Mexico border, U.S. Congressman Bob Filner urged California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to ask for a Presidential Disaster Declaration for Imperial County.

“While preliminary damage estimates are still being developed, I urge you to request a Presidential Disaster Declaration for the areas of Imperial County, California that have been impacted by the April 4 earthquake,” wrote Filner.

A Presidential Disaster Declaration is needed before federal disaster aid can be made available to help rebuilding efforts in areas affected by the quake. Local governments, homeowners and small businesses in the impacted areas could all be eligible for aid once the disaster declaration is made.

Congressman Filner represents the 51st district including all of Imperial County, the southern half of San Diego and the South Bay cities of Chula Vista and National City.
