CHP Locate Two Teens Involved In Route 56 Fatal Collision

July 12, 2019 By sdcnews

SAN DIEGO–California Highway Patrol investigators have located a 14 and 15-year-old male passengers involved in a fatal collision late Tuesday evening.

After speaking to witnesses and involved parties, investigators have determined that one of the deceased males was the driver of the Altima when it collided with the guard rail over Gonzalez Creek. The driver was 17-years-old from Escondido. At this time investigators will continue with the investigation but do not anticipate any charges stemming from the collision..

On July 9, shortly after 11 p.m. San Diego CHP officers were dispatched to a collision with an ambulance rolling on State Route 56 eastbound west of Carmel Valley Road.

A 2012 Nissan Altima sedan was found with rear end damage blocking the number one lane on the bridge of State Route 56 eastbound over Gonzalez Creek. The Nissan appeared to have spun out and its rear end collided with the metal guard rail to the north side of the roadway. According to witnesses on scene, a total of six occupants exited the Nissan and ran south east towards the right hand shoulder of the freeway. Four of the occupants jumped over the concrete wall on the south side of the freeway. Two other occupants continued eastbound on the right shoulder. Two males were found deceased approximately 80 feet below the freeway. Two females were found with severe injuries near the deceased males and both were transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital for treatment.
