Oceanside, CA–A 16-month-old boy was struck and killed in a vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon in Oceanside, authorities said.

Oceanside police officers responded to calls of a white Ford F-150 truck that struck a child at around 3:39 p.m. in the 3200 block of San Tomas Drive.

The truck, driven by a 62-year-old Oceanside resident, was traveling west on San Tomas Drive and struck the toddler who was walking in the roadway. Officers arrived on the scene, and life-saving measures were attempted; however, the child was pronounced dead by paramedics.

The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the police investigation, police say.

According to investigators, neither alcohol, drugs, nor speed are believed to be a factor in the collision. The child’s name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

“We extend our deepest sympathy to all impacted by this tragedy,” the Oceanside Police Department said in a news release.

The Oceanside Police Department is investigating the collision.
