Hildago, TX–U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge intercepted $289,000 worth of methamphetamine as it was being smuggled into the United States.

“Our frontline officers’ outstanding commitment towards the CBP mission has enabled them to effect this interception of hard narcotics, although compact in quantity, but still significant in our efforts to keep dangerous drugs out of our communities,” said Port Director Sylvia Briones, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.

This discovery occurred on July 23 at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge after a CBP officer referred a 58-year-old male Mexican citizen driving a white 2016 Ford Fiesta for a secondary examination. With the assistance of a (canine team), officers conducting the secondary inspection were able to discover packages of suspected narcotics concealed within the vehicle. Officers removed six packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing 14.46 pounds (6.56 kg).

CBP OFO seized the narcotics, the vehicle and arrested the man from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Homeland Security Investigations agents continue with the investigation.
