SAN DIEGO–Dr. Constance Carroll, chancellor of the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD), and board of trustees president Rich Grosch have been elected by their peers to lead the region’s community college association.
As one of the oldest and most effective regional consortia in California, the San Diego and Imperial Counties Community Colleges Association (SDICCCA) represents six community college districts: SDCCD, which includes City, Mesa, and Miramar Colleges and Continuing Education; Grossmont-Cuyamaca, MiraCosta, Palomar, Southwestern, and Imperial Valley. These institutions collectively serve over 220,000 students. The region’s universities send representatives to the monthly SDICCCA meetings.
Carroll is the incoming president of SDICCCA and Grosch will head up the organization’s alliance of boards of trustees.
“Our region of the state is well known for the collaboration of its community colleges,” Carroll said, “from joint applications for grants to planning and coordinating programs, to holding press conferences on important issues affecting our local communities. We have found that this is an effective way to operate since cooperation is always preferable to competition.”
