Carlsbad to hold “Wild West Fest” at Leo Carrillo Ranch

April 27, 2010 By Staff

CARLSBAD–City of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation presents Wild West Fest on Saturday, May 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park, 6200 Flying LC Lane in Carlsbad.  Scheduled activities include a Wild West show, “jail and bail” activity, mechanical bull riding, trick rope demonstration, pony rides, souvenir photos, and live music.

Salsa entries will be evaluated by a panel of community judges.  Event attendees will also have the opportunity to weigh in on their favorites.  Prizes will be awarded to the winners in the following categories: Best Overall, Presentation, Restaurant Salsa, Fruit Salsa, Hottest, Most Unique, and People’s Choice.  Attendees may purchase salsa tasting cards at the event for $3, which also includes a bowl of house chili.

“Everyone’s got a favorite kind of salsa, and this contest is a fun way for our residents to showcase their talents,” says Rachael Shay, special events supervisor for the city’s Parks & Recreation department. “Bringing the community together to share memories and fun in one of our most unique parks is what this event is all about.”
