CARLSBAD–City of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation presents Wild West Fest on Saturday, May 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park, 6200 Flying LC Lane in Carlsbad. Scheduled activities include a Wild West show, “jail and bail” activity, mechanical bull riding, trick rope demonstration, pony rides, souvenir photos, and live music.
Salsa entries will be evaluated by a panel of community judges. Event attendees will also have the opportunity to weigh in on their favorites. Prizes will be awarded to the winners in the following categories: Best Overall, Presentation, Restaurant Salsa, Fruit Salsa, Hottest, Most Unique, and People’s Choice. Attendees may purchase salsa tasting cards at the event for $3, which also includes a bowl of house chili.
“Everyone’s got a favorite kind of salsa, and this contest is a fun way for our residents to showcase their talents,” says Rachael Shay, special events supervisor for the city’s Parks & Recreation department. “Bringing the community together to share memories and fun in one of our most unique parks is what this event is all about.”
Admission is free; activity cards and food available at additional cost. Parking is available at Carrillo Elementary School.
Individuals and restaurants are invited to enter a salsa-making contest. There is no entry fee; however pre-registration is required.
