CARLSBAD–The City of Carlsbad Police Department’s Senior Volunteer Patrol will be delivering holiday cheer to some very special Carlsbad residents. The senior patrol will deliver surprise gift baskets to the “You are Not Alone” (YANA) participants.
The YANA program is a free service for City of Carlsbad seniors who live alone and would benefit from having someone check on their welfare. The goal is to help YANA participants feel confident while continuing to live independently. Members of the police department’s senior patrol make daily phone calls or visits to each of the YANA participants.
The self-proclaimed senior patrol elves collect items for the gift baskets, both new and homemade, package the baskets and personally deliver them on December 19.
“The seniors in the YANA Program are special to us.” said senior patrol member Glenn Peterson who is responsible for the project. “We look forward to both preparing the holiday gift baskets and seeing the smiling faces as we deliver them.”
There are currently 27 seniors registers for the YANA Program in Carlsbad. If residents are interested in enrolling themselves or someone else in the YANA Program, or if residents are interested in joining the senior volunteer patrol, they can call the City of Carlsbad Police Department’s Senior Volunteer Patrol at (760) 931-2214 or www.carlsbadca.gov/police
