Carlsbad Police to provide classes for parents with hard-to-handle children

January 11, 2012 By sdcnews

CARLSBAD–The Carlsbad Police Department will be sponsoring a training course for parents with hard-to-handle children.  The program, called “Parent Project Jr.” or “Loving Solutions,” is for parents with children age’s five to ten.

The class is produced by the police department’s “GUIDE” Program.  GUIDE is a unique prevention program that educates young people on self-esteem, positive decision-making, and the dangers of substance abuse and gang involvement.

Director of Carlsbad Police’s GUIDE Program Penny Velazquez shares, “This parenting course is designed for parents facing the challenges of strong-willed, non-compliant and/or out of control children who consistently test limits, argue, break house rules and/or engage in dangerous high-risk or self-destructive behaviors.”  Velazquez further comments, “The Loving Solutions course has special solutions for the parents of children with Attention Deficit Disorders and the curriculum addresses both current problems and the future challenges of raising children.”

The Loving Solutions classes run seven consecutive Tuesdays, beginning January 24, 2012 and are in the evenings from 6 – 9 p.m.   The classes are held at the Carlsbad Senior Center, 799 Pine Ave. The cost of the classes is $25 per person and $35 per couple.  The classes are free for active military personnel.  Pre-registration is recommended.
