CARLSBAD–A Carlsbad police officer was arrested January 19 for allegedly taking narcotics from the police department’s property impound.
Officer Michael C. Koch, 44, was taken into custody and charged with burglary after the department launched an investigation of potential misconduct.
On January 20, Officer Koch posted bail of $25,000 and was released from custody. The officer has been placed on administrative leave.
A police spokesman says numerous police employees were listed as witnesses.
“All members of the Carlsbad Police Department, both sworn and civilian are held to the highest of standards, said Carlsbad Police Chief Gary Morrison in a written statement. “We are expected to serve the community with the highest level of professionalism, ethics and integrity. Any breach of the public’s trust that comes to the attention of this Department will be dealt with swiftly and thoroughly.”
