CARLSBAD–The City of Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Department offers youth chess classes for children ages 6 to 12 years old from Sept. 12 through Oct. 17.
The classes will teach young children the rules of the game and piece movement in a fun and colorful way. More advanced players will learn chess strategies, checkmates and principles. A giant chess board as well as standard size chess boards will be used throughout the course to ensure a fun learning environment.
Classes meet on Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m. at Calavera Hills Community Center. Fee is $99 for Carlsbad residents and $109 for non-residents.
