CARLSBAD–City of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation presents Health and Wellness Weekend, July 10-11. The event is the centerpiece of a month-long celebration of “July is National Parks & Recreation Month.”
The weekend’s activities feature a Community Health and Fitness Expo on Saturday, July 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the southwest parking lot of Westfield Plaza Camino Real. The expo features a Fitness Activity Circuit, as well as live demonstrations, products and informational booths offering resources for getting healthy and staying healthy at any age. The Health and Fitness Expo continues from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday, July 11 at the Tamarack State Beach sea wall along Carlsbad Boulevard, near the Triathlon start and finish lines.
“We are emphasizing ways to incorporate fitness into everyday life,” says special events supervisor, Rachael Shay. “Fitness is can be about more than just going to a gym; it can be as simple as enjoying the great outdoors with family on a trail hike, or doing yoga stretches at your desk for 10 minutes a day. It also doesn’t have to be about endless pushups or crunches – you can stay healthy by taking a dance class, practicing martial arts or enjoying an informal pick-up game of basketball. Parks & Recreation is a fantastic resource for all kinds of healthy activities. ”
The 29th annual Carlsbad Triathlon, one of the longest-running events of its kind on the West Coast, begins at 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 11 at Tamarack State Beach with a 1K swim, followed by a 25K bike course and 5K run that takes participants past Carlsbad’s scenic beaches, lagoon and wildlife preserve.
