Camp Pendleton Marines accused of passing secrets to LA Sheriff’s Department

May 17, 2010 By Staff

CAMP PENDLETON–A Camp Pendleton Marine officer was sentenced Thursday to 90 days confinement for leaking intelligence documents to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Maj. Mark Lowe pleaded guilty to passing secret information to a sheriff’s anti-terrorism unit between 2003 and 2004. Court testimony says some of the material came from the CIA. He was ordered to forfeit $6,000 in pay.

Col. Larry Richards of Camp Pendleton is awaiting trial in the case, while three lower-ranking Marines either pleaded guilty or were convicted.
