Camp Pendleton Marine killed in Afghanistan

CAMP PENDLETON–A Camp Pendleton marine was killed in action while conducting combat operations in Helmand Province Afghanistan.

Lance Corporal Alejandro J. Yazzie, 23, of Rock Point, Arizona, died as a result of small arms fire Tuesday, Feb. 16 while participating in the offensive on Marjah.

He was assigned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force onCamp Pendleton.

Yazzie enlisted in the Marine Corps September 15, 2008.

His personal service awards include the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
