Camp Pendleton battles fire

July 14, 2010 By Staff

CAMP PENDLETON–The Wildland fire on Camp Pendleton is 60 percent contained and has burned approximately 2,700 acres as of 5:44 p.m. The fire started Tuesday morning at approximately 9:30 a.m. during a training exercise here.

Basilone Road remains closed in both directions and is likely to remain closed into the evening. North bound traffic is being turned around at Roblar Road and directed back to Vandegrift Boulevard. South bound traffic is being directed west bound on to Las Pulgas Road to Stuart Mesa Road.

At this time there is no threat to any of the surrounding communities. There is currently no longer a threat to any facilities or structures aboard the base. Fire fighters expect to have the fire controlled by tomorrow.

Current assets on hand include Seven Camp Pendleton Type III Brush Trucks, one Camp Pendleton water tender, two United States Forest Service Strike Teams, as well as a total of three helicopters from local jurisdictions.
