Border Fire Continues To Burn, Residents Evacuated

June 20, 2016 By sdcnews

SAN DIEGO–The Border Fire near Potrero has burned about 1,900 acres, CAL Fire officials said Monday.

About 48 Sheriff’s deputies are helping firefighters with security and traffic patrols in evacuated and fire areas. In the air, two ASTREA Bell 205 fire/rescue helicopters are making water drops on the blaze.

The Red Cross has set up a shelter at Campo Elementary School, 1654 Buckman Springs Road in Campo. About 44 people stayed at the shelter overnight, according to Red Cross officials.

Evacuated residents with large animals can bring them to Circle T Ranch at 24215 Viejas Grade Road in Descanso. Owners must care for their animals’ needs while at the ranch. Or at the U.S. Border Patrol Boulevard Station at 2463 Ribbonwood Road in Boulevard.

State Route 94 is closed from Highway 188/Tecate Road to Mountain Empire RV Park.

With the excessive heat warning from the National Weather Service, Campo-Morena Village Library at 31356 Highway 94 in Campo is open until 6:00 p.m. as a Cool Zone. The Potrero Library is closed.
