LA JOLLA–Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego will showcase student musicians at the third annual Immersion April 19 at the aquarium.
The 6 to 8 p.m. event features musical performances from UC San Diego music graduate students as part of the annual Springfest celebration. Visitors can stroll through the aquarium and encounter live and recorded pieces inspired by ocean life.
Guests are free to wander from site to site, curating their own musical experiences while enjoying the sea life all around. Enjoy immersive sound-installations in the Hall of Fishes, live world music on the Tide-Pool Plaza, soothing string quartet harmonies in front of the two-story Kelp Forest, free jazz in the Smargon Courtyard, “nearly” silent film in the Galleria, and performative poetry in the aquarium’s popular exhibit, There’s Something About Seahorses.
The event is $10 for the public and $8 for aquarium members and UC San Diego students (with ID). Splash! Café will be open for the evening, serving a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, entree salads, soup, hot dogs, beverages, and more.
Tickets may be purchased online at aquarium.ucsd.edu, or by calling (858) 534-5771.
