SAN MARCOS–A 55-year-old bicyclist riding in the bike lane was seriously injured when a motorcyclist struck him in San Marcos, Sheriff’s deputies said Thursday.
The collision occurred just after 8 a.m. in the 470 block of West Mission Road in San Marcos.
The bicyclist was traveling eastbound in the bike lane on the south side of W. Mission Road, and at some point, the bicyclist turned his bicycle north, across the traveling lanes of eastbound traffic and was struck by the motorcyclist. The bicyclist suffered serious head and spinal injury as a result of the collision.
He was transported by air ambulance to Mercy Air to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for treatment of his injuries. The motorcyclist suffered a small cut on his left middle finger but refused treatment.
The investigation is ongoing.
