Poway, CA–A 62-year-old male bicyclist suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a vehicle in the 12100 block of Kirkham Road in Poway Thursday morning, authorities said.
After the collision, the 49-year-old driver and a passing motorist stopped to call 9-1-1 and render aid to the injured cyclist. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and assisted with rendering first aid to the cyclist until the Poway Fire Department arrived.
The Poway Fire Department transported the cyclist to Palomar Medical Center Escondido, where he was admitted with serious injuries. A preliminary investigation indicated the vehicle driver’s vision could have been impaired while driving eastbound as the sun was rising.
Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factored in the collision. The investigation is being handled by the Poway Traffic Division.
