SAN MARCOS–Sheriff’s deputies are searching for the parents of a toddler found wandering in a San Marcos apartment complex on Monday.

Deputies received a call at 6 p.m. about the toddler from an individual at the Barham Villas Apartments, located in the 500 block of East Barham Drive.

When they arrived, residents told deputies they found a toddler wandering in the basketball courtyard within the complex. She was only wearing a diaper. A resident provided the clothes the child is wearing to keep her warm.

Deputies and residents went door to door looking for the child’s family. The apartment complex management also sent out an email to all residents about the little girl that had been found.

Announcements were also made by the Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter in the neighborhood. The Sheriff’s Department also got the word out on social media.

The child’s family has not been found. There are also no reports of a missing child with any other local law enforcement agency. The toddler was taken to the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station. Child Welfare Services has also been contacted. The toddler is believed to be between one and two years-old.

Anyone with information about the child or her parents can contact the Sheriff’s Department at (858) 565-5200.
