Authorities arrest suspects in connection with fatal home invasion robbery

Oceanside, CA–Oceanside police arrest five men on suspicion of a home invasion robbery early Wednesday morning that resulted in the death of one man shot by the resident.

Investigators say one of the suspects allegedly went to a residence at the 300 Block of Moonstone Bay Drive and participated in a home invasion robbery along with the additional suspects.

During the course of the robbery, a resident inside the home retrieved a gun and shot at the suspects, striking one man.

Oceanside police are investigating whether the same resident shot the second suspect, who is currently in the hospital or if the suspect was shot by one of the other suspects who were also armed with a gun.

The suspect’s name is withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

The suspects arrested for murder and robbery were: Deshawn Ingram, 29, of Oceanside, Eric Dunnigan, 21, of  Vista, Michael Simmons, 21 of San Diego, Jaylen Harvey, 24 of Oceanside, and Sydni Tucker, 25 of Oceanside.

A records check was conducted on the suspects and it was determined that Deshawn Ingram was recently convicted, out on bond, and awaiting sentencing for assault with a deadly weapon (firearm) case that occurred in Oceanside in April of 2020.

On Wednesday at 1:16 am, Oceanside police responded to a call of a person suffering from a gunshot wound at the 300 Block of Moonstone Bay Drive. Officers arrived on the scene and found a 31-year-old male inside a residence who had sustained a gunshot wound. Officers rendered medical aid and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Additional responding officers stopped a vehicle leaving the area. Several subjects inside the vehicle were detained, including a 29-year-old male who had sustained a gunshot wound.

Officers and paramedics rendered medical aid to the man. He was then transported to a local area hospital for further treatment, where he is currently in stable condition.

Detectives from the Crimes of Violence Unit are investigating the incident.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Oceanside Police Detective Malone at (760) 435-4537 or the Anonymous Tip Line at (760) 435-4730.
