SAN DIEGO–Adventures by the Book will present author, pie baker, journalist, and TV host Beth Howard at the Pacific Beach Farmer’s Market on April 24.
The event is free and open to the public, although pre-orders for fresh pies and signed books are available at www.adventuresbythebook.com.
Activities include pie-making demo, book signing, and an opportunity to meet the author up close and personal. Books will be available for sale at the event; only books pre-ordered or purchased at the event are eligible for signing.
In 2001, at the height of the dot com boom, Beth Howard quit a lucrative web-producing job to bake pies at a gourmet deli in Malibu, California. While she enjoyed her newfound status as “pie baker to the stars,” she couldn’t pay her rent on a baker’s salary. Still, she recognized how happy pie made people. In her book, Beth relates the story of how pie helped her heal from the death of her 43-year old husband. Howard lives in Iowa, where she is the proud resident of the famous American Gothic House, and where she sells pies to tourists from her Pitchfork Pie Stand and teaches pie-making classes. She is currently developing a TV series about pie.
The event will be held on April 24 from 2 to 7 p.m., at the Pacific Beach Farmer’s Market, Bayard and Garnet Streets in San Diego.
