CREST–An early, Sunday morning fire spree was stopped dead it its tracks when a Crest resident tackled two suspects and kept one in a head lock until Sheriff Deputies arrived.
It started with the report of a vehicle fire on the 2100 block of Eucalyptus Drive in Crest. The interior of a pick-up truck was set on fire. As a San Miguel Fire investigator was heading to the first location, a second fire was reported. A 20-foot travel trailer had been broken into and set on fire on the 2100 block of Crest Drive. The two suspected arson fires were about 30 minutes apart.
The trailer was parked next to the home at the same property and set the eves of the home on fire. However because fire officials was able to sent an additional unit to investigate the first fire, there were three fire engines in the area and that kept the fire from entering the home.
Shortly after the second fire one Crest resident spotted the suspects and ended up holding one until Deputies arrived. The second managed to escape. There is no apparent motive for suspected arson fires.
The suspect in custody is facing two felony arson charges as well as one burglary charges. Investigators say they are developing solid information for a second arrest.
