SAN DIEGO–San Diego Police Department detectives today have arrested a suspect in a criminal threats series that began in May, 2007.
In May of 2007, the first victim reported that she had received a threatening phone call from an unknown individual. During the call the suspect stated he was a “sicko” and that he liked “pretty ladies”.
Over the next two and a half years the suspect’s threats became more severe and expanded from phone calls to threatening letters. The victims were concerned for their safety due to the nature of the suspect’s threats. His victims are all female and included news reporters, teachers, a real estate agent, and an office manager. Nine victims have been linked to this suspect.
The San Diego Police Departments Forensic Laboratory examined physical evidence obtained throughout the investigation and identified Christopher Carl Hass 57, as the suspect. Hass was taken into custody this morning at his residence and booked into County Jail. He is being charged with seven counts of criminal threats and two counts of annoying phone calls based on two of the cases. Hass does have two prior arrests for similar offenses in other states.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department assisted with this investigation. One of the cases occurred in Temecula.
