SAN DIEGO–“American Idol” producers are coming to San Diego Monday in search for the 15th singing superstar.
Auditions for the final season of the FOX television series will be held at Waterfront Park in front of the County Administration Center, 1600 Pacific Highway, in downtown San Diego.
It’s the fourth time “American Idol” has held auditions in San Diego, according to the show’s Senior Supervising Producer Patrick Lynn.
“We love going there as it’s a great alternative to Los Angeles and gives people down in that area a real chance,” he said. “The backdrop is great and we always have a good time there.”
Lynn offered preparation tips for those aspiring singers hoping for that big break in show business.
“The best place to start is by picking a couple of songs…..and rehearse them. In front of a mirror, in front of your family and friends. Knowing a couple of songs is key in case the producers asks you for a second song,” he said. “Also, be positive. I say this all the time, your personality is a big part of what we look for. We want outgoing contestants who will be energetic on camera.”
Audition organizers says contestants must bring a photo identification card such as a driver’s license and birth certificate. They also must sign a release form. Minors at the audition must bring a parent or guardian over 21, and a notarized guardianship and medical release forms.
Contestants will start to line up at 6 a.m. Auditions begin at 8 a.m. Public parking will be limited on site. Public transportation is encouraged.
FOX Television announced last May that the 15th season of “American Idol” would be its last. Since it first aired in 2002, many successful careers have been launched, including former San Diegans Adam Lampert and Jessica Sanchez.
“I’ve always felt the key to Idol’s success are the people who audition for the show. Picking the right ones is so important. Never judge a book by its cover we say. We have a good track record for Idols that go on to better success in the recording industry,” Lynn said.
Information on requirements can be found on the show’s website, www.AmericanIdol.com. Participants can search for schedules and times of future auditions, as well as links to tours, photos and clips from the show.
