ALPINE–The Alpine Fire Protection District received grant awards to purchased new carbon monoxide detectors and a new roof ventilation prop.
The funds to purchase these new advanced items were made possible through grant awards received from two local grant sources, San Diego County Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Fund and the San Diego Regional Fire and Emergency grant.
The equipment will allow firefighters to monitor levels of carbon monoxide in both the public and fire personnel when there has been a possibility of exposure to carbon monoxide.
The Masimo Rad 57 will make a lifesaving difference for patients and emergency first responders in situations that they may not have walked away from. With the technology of the Rad-57 in the hands of skilled first responders, it will make a difference to firefighting personnel and patients in all walks of life.
The District also purchased and installed a new roof ventilation prop. The new training prop will allow firefighters to train in vertical ventilation which will heighten the level of safety for both firefighters and public. Basically, vertical ventilation is cutting a hole in the roof of a building allowing the toxic and hot gases and smoke to leave the building. This aids in assisting the rescue of trapped residents and helps extinguish the fire quicker.
The ventilation prop is made up of rafters and plywood to simulate the material that make up a roof. It can also be set to different angles to simulate different roof pitches.
