San Diego, CA–Alejandro Guido is at it again. The San Diego Loyal midfielder was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for a second consecutive time.
The Chula Vista native earned the honors this time for his standout performance in a 1-1 draw against New Mexico United in a Week 26 match on Oct. 17.
Guido had earned a spot on the league’s team of the week on Oct. 12 for scoring and assisting in a win against Sacramento Republic. He continued the following week against New Mexico United as he notched one assist and five key passes while winning 15 of 19 duels and completing 29 of 36 passes in an impressive all-around performance. He nearly scored twice when he had a shot crash on the crossbar and had another one blocked by a defender at the goal line, also sending it onto the crossbar. It is his third time being named to Team of the Week this season.
The former LIGA MX and MLS player has five goals for SD Loyal this season as he has been a key contributor often filling in at different positions due to some injuries to starters at the midfield. Guido, who signed an extension with SD Loyal this past offseason, has played in 27 matches, starting in 18 while playing 1,658 minutes to date.
Guido was named USL Championship Player of the Week earlier this season. This is the 13th time this year that an SD Loyal player receives Team of the Week honors. SD Loyal, who has clinched a postseason berth, has now had a player on this list in seven of the last eight weeks as the team continues to vie for the second-place spot in the Pacific Division.
