LA MESA–KAST, (Kids and Seniors Together) is looking for a few good volunteers. Jointly sponsored by the City of La Mesa and La Mesa Spring Valley School District, KAST is an intergenerational after-school program that matches mature adults with second through-fourth-grade students. It is designed to provide senior adults an opportunity to share their talents, skills and special interest with students who benefit from one-on-one mentoring.
After an initial orientation, KAST volunteers are schedule one afternoon per week, from 2:20 to 4:15 p.m., on the day of their choice on regular school days. Activities include: homework assistance, snack time, art projects, organized games, share ideas and participate with group discussions.
Other volunteer opportunities could be with a new program called Active Generations provided by OASIS. Classes are once a week for 8 weeks and are about 90 minutes. You learn to motivate kids about healthy living by teaching a healthy lesson and engaging them in fun active games.
