Abandoned Puppy Ready For New Home

February 23, 2019 By sdcnews

Grace

SAN DIEGO–An abandoned 3-month-old puppy suffering from head injuries is now on the mend and is available for adoption from County Animal Services.

The young pit bull was found in a milk crate near a burning dumpster in the Crest area on Feb. 13, according to Animal Services.

A good Samaritan took the dog to an emergency hospital where she was treated for infected dog bite wounds to her head. County Animal Services picked up the animal from the hospital and has been providing care for her ever since.

“We are happy to announce that Grace is recovering well from her injuries,” said Director of Animal Services Dan DeSousa. “Her sutures will be removed soon so she is looking for a home.”

Despite her ordeal, Grace is described as a sweetheart of a dog. She has also gained six pounds while under veterinary care.

Anyone interested in adopting Grace must complete a special adoption application and email it to dasinfo@sdcounty.ca.gov, drop it off at the county’s animal shelters in Bonita or Carlsbad before 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 26.

Animal Services staff will review all of the applications and select the top candidates. They will be invited to the shelter in Bonita to meet Grace, and staff will then select the best family to adopt the pup.

“Grace has obviously been the victim of abuse and neglect in the past, and we are looking for the perfect family to shower her with love and attention for the rest of her life,” said DeSousa.

DeSousa says the owner could have brought the dog to a shelter or asked for help from groups that will help cover veterinary costs, rather than simply abandon the puppy.

The department still wants to find out who neglected the animal and then abandoned her. Anyone who recognizes the puppy is asked to contact the department at (619) 767-2675.
