SAN DIEGO–Thirty-three organizations throughout San Diego County were recognized with Diamond Awards during a special reception at SANDAG for their outstanding efforts to encourage their employees to use alternative transportation choices, such as public transit, carpooling, biking, and walking to get to work.
The Diamond Awards program is administered by the SANDAG iCommute division, which provides a variety of commuter assistance and employer services to help reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions.
Four tiers of Diamond Awards winners were recognized at a breakfast reception: Platinum Tier – UC San Diego; Gold Tier – CH2M HILL, Port of San Diego, Sharp HealthCare and Watkins Manufacturing; Silver Tier – AECOM, BD Biosciences Pharmingen, City of Chula Vista, DNV GL, Dudek, ICF International, LEGOLAND California, Naval Base Coronado, Phone Ware, Inc., Sempra Energy, Sony North America, and Thermo Fisher Scientific. Bronze Tier – Circulate San Diego, City of Del Mar, City of Escondido, Component Control Fehr and Peers, Parsons Brinckerhoff, Qualcomm Incorporated, RECON Environmental, Inc., San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, Taylor Guitars, University of San Diego, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), USE Credit Union, UTC Aerospace Systems, and Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc.
SANDAG says these organizations help improve the region’s mobility by promoting alternatives to driving alone, including: vanpool, carpool, walk, bike, transit, telework, compressed workweek schedules, or a combination of these.
The 2015 iCommute Diamond Awards program recognizes employers as they work through stages of their commuter benefits program. The program is based on a points system tied to employer involvement, Corporate Challenge participation, and shifts in employee commute choices. All San Diego County employers are invited to take advantage of complimentary iCommute employer services to be eligible for Diamond Awards.
