Escondido, CA–Escondido police arrested one driver for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and another driver on an outstanding warrant at a DUI checkpoint on Saturday, authorities said.
The checkpoint was held from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Valley Parkway and Avenida Del Diablo.
A total of 847 vehicles were contacted by police at the checkpoint. About 38 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, Escondido police said.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
The next DUI checkpoint will be held in August.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
