17 Annual Silver Strand Veterans Day Half Marathon Returns To Coronado

silver-strandSAN DIEGO–Runners of all ages will hit the ground next week at the 17th annual Silver Strand Veterans Day Half Marathon, 10 Miler, and 5K Sunset Park in Coronado

The November 13 race offers special low priced registration categories to honor all veterans and military including their families, as well as all first responders, police, fire, EMTs, and paramedics. The race boasts five bands along the route for racers entertainment including rock, Hawaiian, USA Surfer Band, Jazz, and the Naruwan Taiko Drummers.

Participants can pick up their packet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through November 12 at RoadRunner Sports, 5553 Copley Drive in San Diego. The expo will include sponsors of the 2016 edition of the Silver Strand Veterans Day Half Marathon and 5K including GranFondo Cycling Tours, APX, Sierra Nevada Brewing, Pulse Endurance Sports, and Rehab United.

The Veterans Day 5K course, starts and finishes at Imperial Beach Pier as an out-and-back course, and is open to runners, walkers, families, kids, and strollers.

The racers converge at the Imperial Beach ‘Party at the Pier’, where they will receive the new 2016 USA and Woody themed Finisher’s Medal, a unique keepsake that doubles as a bottle opener. The Party at the Pier includes a view of the finish line, live entertainment featuring Blue Rockit Band, the Sierra Nevada Beer Garden, post race food, fluids, massages, and award ceremonies.

To accommodate participants, a shuttle bus is available from Silver Strand State Beach, Imperial Beach, and Coronado City Hall, and discounted registration is available to residents of Coronado and Imperial Beach.

The event is a USA Track and Field Sanctioned Race, and the National Leg Amputee 5K Championship Race.
