Vista, CA–A 14-year-old high school student was arrested Wednesday for bringing a weapon to the campus at a north county high school, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies from the Vista Sheriff’s Station responded to a call just after 10:30 a.m. to Rancho Buena Vista High School located in the 1600 block of Longhorn Drive in Vista for a report of a student with a weapon, according to Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Jeffrey Ford.
School officials had all students remain in their classrooms while they investigated the identity of the student with the weapon.
When deputies arrived, school officials had identified and detained a 14-year-old student. A pellet handgun was recovered from the student’s backpack. There were no pellets in the handgun and none were found during the investigation.
Deputies determined no threats were made during the incident.
The student was released into the custody of their parents. Because the suspect is a minor, the Sheriff’s Department cannot release any further information.
