OCEANSIDE–A 12 year-old male bicyclist was fatally injured Thursday morning in a vehicle collision near a recreational vehicle park in downtown Oceanside.
Oceanside police says a white Dodge Ram 3500 pick-up was pulling out of the driveway at 1510 South Coast Highway and was about to make a left turn to go south. As the vehicle began to move, the driver heard a thump on the side of his vehicle. Not having seen anything, the driver continued his turn, but pulled into an adjacent driveway at 1512 S. Coast to see what had happened. He found the bicyclist lodged under his vehicle.
Oceanside paramedics arrived and immediately began life-saving measures. The bicyclist was flown to Tri-City Medical Center but was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The bicyclist was not identified pending notification of next of kin.
